Thank you for your public comments through this website! *3 comments

I don’t generally post replies to comments  –   I express my views through my main blog posts.  But I appreciate and personally read all of the comments.  Let me know if you would like a direct response from me, and I will respond publicly or privately as you prefer.

I see dialog with my constituents as a central part of my job as state representative.  I want people to feel very free to express their opinions on this site — even when they may disagree with me or be critical of me.   That’s another reason I don’t want to respond to every post — I don’t want to argue with people.   By so doing, I risk discouraging comments.

I want to explain what I’m doing and let people respond with their concerns. I’ll keep listening and trying to move forward.

Can’t we stop pretending like we can’t afford to provide good schools well maintained infrastructure, a rapid transition to a greener economy. There are lots of us who would hardly notice a tax increase. I’d gladly pay more taxes to get good cheap public transportation, good public schools, good affordable health care. Can’t we stop the fraudulant language about the government taking our money instead of us getting to keep it. We don’t get to keep it; we need to spend it anyway to get what we need, and we give it to the government to get things done that would be hard or impossible for the private sector to do, things we want. What’s called for is taxes and spending on stuff that improves the quality of life for the people.

And I love a direct response public or otherwise.

    Thank you.

Hello, I find it hard to comment because as soon as I formulate my comment, there is more disappointing news. However, this is all pretty simple, not the process but the direction. First, we must raise taxes! There is no other answer. Then, we must publicly finance campaigns to eliminate the POWER that the wealthy, the lobbyists and other substantial groups hold. Finally, we need to encourage and allow additional parties to participate in the discussion. The 2 party systems operates to protect the status quo. I would vote for candidates other than Republicans (not often anyway) or Democrats, if they were visible and part of the discussion. Those are my 3 requirements. Otherwise in 50 years we will be talking about equal education, equal and quality healthcare, good jobs and a need to stem poverty just as we are today. The system needs to change before the discussion will change substantially and certainly before results change dramatically. These changes need to be implemented nationally and state by state.
